Phillip Kim entered the music business first as an artist. As the lead singer/songwriter and frontman for the Los Angeles alternative rock band, Raspberry JAM, Mr. Kim co-wrote and produced the band's music, and was known as the driving promotional force behind their success. He developed a mentor/managerial relationship with other bands, which he promoted in the Orange County alterntive scene and became a recognized figure in the southland music scene. Kim also ran a local club in Anaheim, "John Does" which hosted many important independent artists including the Violet Burning album release party, Lighter Shade of Brown, and others. He started the ZOTS concert line which evolved into the Southern California Music Works concert line, the premier concert connection hotline for So. California.

In 1992, Mr. Kim was offered a position to head a newly formed indie record label, Metro One with certified Gold artist Crystal Lewis and husband.  As Manager of this new start up label, his duties included A&R, Promotion, Graphics, Marketing, and Production. While head of Metro One, Mr. Kim signed many excellent artists and produced many critically acclaimed projects. Metro One became the number one selling label through the national distribution system

 and garnered critical praise in the music industry. Working with key artists and keeping the company focused on the message of the music, Kim built a reputation of strong business principles with equally strong artistic focus. While there, Kim developed the relationship between Wycliffe Translators and Crystal Lewis which led to successful concert tours and spokesperson sponsorship. Mr. Kim worked with Metro One until WORD records approached the label.

Artist Representation and Production credits at his previous record label include Crystal Lewis, Tbone, Precious Death, Asight Unseen, Prodigal Sons, Lanny Cordola, Dynamic Twins, King Shon and the SSMOB, Raspberry JAM, Chris Lizotte and more.

In 1997, Mr. Kim began consulting for
N*SOUL Records
among others and soon was offered a partnership and CEO position in the newly formed corporation of N*SOUL Records, Inc. which is his current vocation.

Production credits at his current record label include the AFIM Indie Award nominated series, Nitro Praise, epic techno artist Cloud 2 Ground, Drum n Bass artist J. Davis, Actor of the hit show ER,  Deezer D, and many more.

Mr. Kim has produced over 200 nationally distributed records to date and continues to create and release records. In 2001, Mr Kim was given the opportunity to work as Music Director for the soundtrack of a major motion Feature Film release, Mercy Streets, which included musical artists Moby, Sixpence None the Richer, and Jennifer Knapp among others.

Mr. Kim's production company has worked with many multi-platinum artists and producers in the industry including Fiona Apple, BT, Rod Stewart, Trish Trang, Steve Pocaro (TOTO), Marjorie Maye, Guy Roche, to name a few.  As a DJ and remixer, he has spun records at raves, festivals, and events all over the world.

Mr. Kim is involved in many charity organizations here in the Southern California area as a volunteer and helps to produce a benefit compilation of Asian American artists and four live showcase concerts annually. He is on the board of JEMS Jams, a non-profit music organization which supports the JEMS. While attending Christian Assembly, he was asked to consult for Get Down Ministries and worship leader Tommy Walker. In 2003 Mr. Kim was hired as Marketing Director for the JAMA national conference which produced record attendance and the largest gathering in JAMA history. Also in 2003, Mr. Kim accepted the position of Marketing Director for the LA Cancer Challenge which raises funds for the Hirshberg Foundation for Cancer Reseach at the UCLA Medical Center.

Mr. Kim also is a music columnist for three regional magazines and one national magazine. LA VOICE, a local newspaper in the southland, features his column Hi-NOTE which covers the local music scene. His column in ACP Magazine covers the Inland Empire Music scene. His music reviews are featured in LINC magazine. Nationally, he writes an Electronic Musician column for Rockline Magazine. He has also contributed articles to Reality Rock, Mean Street, and many others.
